Welcomed By Design

Designers play an important role in how we experience the world and who gets to participate. At times, inclusive design can feel daunting. Inclusion covers many different lenses, from disability and accessibility to working against bias in algorithms. There’s much to learn. Enter Welcomed by Design: the show where we talk about the many ways to move towards a more inclusive future. Join us to hear from people working as advocates, practitioners, and researchers and learn how we can make every mind and body feel more welcomed by design.

My Contributions

Along with my role as sound designer for episode supplements, I designed an accessible website for Welcomed By Design and created content to include on our website. As the sound designer, I assisted primarily in post-production work, editing, mixing, designing soundscapes, and transcribing episodes. Here is some of my work:

Web Design

For the WBD website, I completed user research, developed wireframes, prototyped, user-tested and produced content. The site hasn’t reached the development stage, but hopefully will be developed in the future.

Podcast Accessibility Guide

As one of the sound designers and web developer for Welcomed By Design, I was interested in creating this guide to help other podcast production teams with resources and guidance regarding podcast accessibility. Welcomed by Design explores how to make the future of design more accessible and inclusive by hearing from people working as advocates, practitioners, and researchers and learning how we can make every mind and body feel more welcomed by design. This guide is designed for podcast listeners and others interested in creating an inclusive podcast by ensuring accessible practices in their creation and development process.
